  • Course Description

      Currently the English 11 course will BEGIN ON 4/22/2024. If you purchase this course today you will gain access to start the course on 4/22/2024. On or after 4/22/2024 English 11 will return to a rolling enrollment which includes start dates of every business day. 

      In this English 11 online course, students will read and examine Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. They will compare and contrast multiple interpretations of scenes as well as identify literary devices used to engage audiences. Students will recognize and comprehend dramatic irony and the plot structure of a tragedy. They will write a rough draft, edit their writing, and then create a final draft. Then, students will analyze different perspectives in literature during the Civil War era, including a famous speech from Abraham Lincoln, a short story from Mark Twain, and an excerpt from Gone with the Wind. They will review literary terms and skills like theme, summarizing, denotation and connotation, and figurative language. Students will choose a topic to argue and write an argument for both opposing sides. Then, they will choose their own opinion based on research and properly cite sources.       Students can take one or more classes individually or complete a full diploma program at The American Academy. Courses can also be taken over the summer.
