Why is accreditation important?

The American Academy is accredited by the Northwest Accreditation Commission. You can find their logo prominently displayed on our website and on all of course course completion certificates. Each of our diplomas are embossed with the Northwest Accreditation Commission seal which is available only to members.

The American Academy invests heavily in maintaining our accreditation. We conduct periodic reviews with our Northwest Accreditation Commission accreditation team as accreditation is an ongoing process and we are always seeking to improve our school's service level.

In order to earn accreditation through the Northwest Accreditation Commission, The American Academy had to document compliance with all of their standards in areas ranging from school vision, curriculum, instruction, and school leadership, to student services, facilities and finance, and continuous improvement.

Regional accreditation is a way to validate that the credits or diploma you earn at The American Academy will be recognized (at their discretion and according to their admission policies) by schools, colleges and universities, employers, and the U.S. military.

How can I be sure that Northwest Accreditation Commission accreditation is legitimate?

The Northwest Accreditation Commission is one of six regional accrediting bodies. The US Department of Education publishes a list of legitimate accrediting agencies.

Another excellent resource is the U.S. Department of Education's U.S. Network for Education Information, USNEI. This U.S. Department of Education website states:

"There are no specific federal laws or regulations governing the recognition of associations that accredit primary and secondary schools, and the U.S. Department of Education has no oversight role with respect to school accreditation. Most states have laws requiring or encouraging accreditation for public schools and state-chartered private schools.

Schools that possess accreditation and state approval by authorities recognized at the state level are considered to be recognized schools in the U.S. education system."
