Description
In this course, students will read and analyze different literary sources, including: Arthur Miller's The Crucible, investigative journalism from Fast Food Nation, famous speeches from Wes Moore and Ralph Waldo Emerson, poetry from Maya Angelou, and other texts and historical documents. They will determine the author’s purpose, define literary concepts, define bias and propaganda, identify persuasive techniques, and identify tone and mood. Writing practice will include the opportunity to write a literary analysis, write explanatory texts, write to support an argument, and write narrative texts. They will conduct research, cite evidence and utilize digital media. Students will not only deepen comprehension of complex texts and speeches, but also find their own motivations and realize the potential the truly have.
